Linda & Jim Winegar*
Linda and Jim Winegar have been creating in clay for forty-seven years. They met in the clay studio at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, while earning their degrees in Art Education. After college, they moved to New England and set up their first clay studio near Worcester, Massachusetts. In 1987, they moved back to southwestern Pennsylvania and established their studio on a 60 acre property, in Greene County. Through the years, they have enjoyed exploring the endless potential of clay. Their stoneware stoneware pottery is fired in a reduction kiln at cone 10. They create functional and decorative forms and formulate glazes that have given their work a unique signature, including a brilliant copper red. They enjoy creating pieces that bring beauty to everyday life. Often the clay surfaces are carved or embossed to create a contrast of texture, juxtaposed against their warm glaze surfaces.
In addition to their studio, they also operate Artbeat, a gallery in Waynesburg, with works by other local & regional artists and craftsmen. In addition to arts festivals and local sales, they have marketed their claywork in shops & galleries throughout the U.S., from Maine to Florida, and Alaska to Hawaii.
