Neil was born and raised in the arts and crafts world. He began assisting his artist father Johnny Claypoole at hundreds of shows at the age of 4, including his appearances on "Captain Noah" and "On the Road with Chares Kuralt." By the ripe age of 9, Neil decided his Dad's painting business was not his true calling and was soon introduced to Jonathan. Not realizing the true impact Neil would bring to his company, Jonathan hired him on to help sand the spoons. Neil quickly made it obvious that sanding spoons was not all he was cut out for. Along with his love for wood and the possibilities it brings, he brought his inherent artistic talents and his understanding and appreciation for the craft world. He is a self-taught gourmet cook with an obsession for perfection, allowing him to transpose their designs into spoons with real usefulness. The national recognition that Jonathan's Spoons now receives is due to the joint talents, artisanship, and partnership of Jonathan and Neil who have been designing and making spoons together for more than 25 years.
