Besides A Fair in the Park, The Craftsmen’s Guild of Pittsburgh also presents fine craft exhibitions, workshops, social events and scholarships to the Pittsburgh community. The 150 members of the Craftsmen’s Guild of Pittsburgh volunteer their time and artistic expertise to provide networking, consultation and mentoring opportunities for other fine craft artists.
ABOUT A FAIR IN THE PARK
2009 is the 40th year of A Fair in the Park, an annual contemporary craft festival, presented by The Craftsmen’s Guild of Pittsburgh. A Fair in the Park is held in the lush surroundings of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s Mellon Park, adjacent to the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, and along Fifth and Shady Avenues in Pittsburgh’s upscale Shadyside area. This pleasant park setting provides A Fair in the Park with a casual ambiance that makes this one of the most enjoyable shows of the season. Rated one of Sunshine Artists top 100 art shows nationwide, A Fair in the Park features the overall highest quality crafts consistently obtaining a high rating from participants. In addition to the vast array of art and craft displays and demonstrations, A Fair in the Park features a concert weekend, a children’s activity and project area and a variety of Pittsburgh’s fabulous foods. A Fair in the Park does not charge admission or parking fees to the public. An estimated 25,000+ attend, dedicated customers that enjoy the opportunity to interact with 105 American Craft artists, working in Clay, Fiber, Wood, Jewelry and Beadwork, Glass, Metal and Mixed Media. A Fair in the Park is an opportunity for the whole family to be creatively involved with recognized local and national artists of all mediums.

THE AUDIENCE
A Fair in the Park’s public audience largely comes from the East End of Pittsburgh, including neighborhoods such as: Shadyside, Point Breeze, Edgewood, Squirrel Hill, Bloomfield, Oakland and Lawrenceville. They are dedicated patrons and purveyors of the arts and of Pittsburgh’s other cultural treasures. They enjoy living and working within the city. The fair also draws people from suburban areas and from as far away as West Virginia and Ohio. A Fair in the Park’s audience is notable for their long-standing loyalty to the fair, creating a uniquely strong community atmosphere. A Fair in the Park has always been devoted to soliciting audience feedback and to transforming in response to the needs of our visitors and participants. As a result we see a substantial crowd come through the park every year and receive a wealth of positive response. A Fair in the Park’s participants come from all across the United States to perform, exhibit, and/or sell their craft to our audience.
