2018 Rules of Participation
Please read and understand the rules of our show. The board of directors are working artists who participate in the show. Please be respectful of the responsibilities they are taking on as volunteers to make this show the success that it is. These rules are there to assure that our show runs smoothly for everyone and that our show is filled with top quality, professional artists.
All booths must be set up for the full length of A Fair in the Park, hereafter referred to as AFIP.
Vehicles are NOT permitted on the grounds of AFIP during show hours or on the grass if it is muddy. Driving on the grounds will be at the discretion of the Fair Director. Vehicles are permitted on the paved walkways throughout the park during load in and load out.
No vehicles are allowed on the grounds until 30 minutes after the close of the festival.
After your booth is completely torn down at the end of show, artists must wait for a ‘GO PASS’ to be issued by the Fair Director or staff before bringing your car into the park.
All work must be conceived, designed, and executed by the participating artist. The artist whose work is on exhibit and for sale must be present for all three (3) days of the show. The work shown in your booth should reflect the work submitted for jurying. Jury images will be compared by the Quality and Standards Committee to the work displayed in your booth to insure consistency. You will be asked to remove anything that does not comply. Less expensive work should be made with the same materials, using the same technique and ‘speak with the same voice’ as your submitted images. You will be asked to immediately remove anything that is not in compliance. The Craftsmen’s Guild of Pittsburgh reserves the right to remove any work that does not conform to our standards and remove any artist that violates the rules of our festival. The decision of the board is final and non-negotiable.
Items that will NOT be accepted include work produced from kits, molds or commercial patterns. Also not accepted are buy-sell, mass produced items and crafts such as flower arrangements, soap, candles, origami, decoupage.
An application is a commitment to the show. No refunds will be given.
Agents, dealers, production studios or vendors of commercial or mass produced items are not permitted.
Photo mechanical (offset), giclee or other reproductions may not exceed 25% of the work offered for sale and must be clearly signed and numbered in such a way that leaves no doubt they are reproductions.
Any accepted artist who does not notify the Fair Director in advance of cancellation may not be accepted into future AFIP shows.
Artists who fail to cooperate with the Fair Director or follow the rules of participation as set forth in this application will not be accepted into future AFIP shows.
Exhibitors may not bring pets to AFIP.
Images of artwork and the short bio/artist’s statement will be posted on the AFIP website and may be used for promotional purposes.
A $35 fee is charged each time a check is returned by your bank.
REMINDER - Only artists who have been accepted in the jewelry category may display or sell jewelry of any kind at AFIP.
NO SMOKING. Smoking is not permitted in Pittsburgh City Parks.
Your area must be kept clear of clutter and within the confines of your assigned area. This includes all boxes, containers or any other item used to transport your product.
Awnings should not extend more than 3 feet.
Any concerns with outside vendors (food, music, sponsors) will be addressed to and by the Fair Director only.
All artist booths must be dismantled and removed from the park by 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening.
Application Procedures & Special Circumstances
Display and Booths
Each artist is responsible for providing her/his own booth or display unit. We recommend that these units have provisions for inclement weather. Shelter is not available in the park. Electricity is not provided for lighting and generators are NOT permitted.
Artists may apply for a 10’X10’ space only.
Booth fees are $395.00 and corner spaces are $445.00.
Multiple Media. Each artist may exhibit work only in the medium for which they have been accepted. To exhibit work in more than one medium, an artist must submit four (4) images in each category of work, one booth shot image and include a $25 application fee for each category. Only artists who have been accepted in the jewelry category may display or sell jewelry during AFIP. For example, a potter wishing to sell jewelry must apply in both the ceramic and the jewelry categories. This applies to members as well as non members.
Booth Location. AFIP considers an artist's request for booth location if the artist has a handicap or physical disability that prevents them from accessing certain areas of the park. The decisions of the Fair Director are final. The layout requires many hours of collaboration and takes many factors into consideration in the process. We cannot make last minute changes unless we miscalculated space or had a cancellation.
Jewelry-precious (silver and gold)
2D Visual Arts (including but not limited to Photography, Etchings, Lithographs, Silkscreens and Paintings).
Insurance and Tax Liability

Each applicant assumes complete responsibility for installing, protecting, handling, selling, and removing all exhibitions on a daily basis.
Exhibitors are responsible for collection and payment of PA and City of Pittsburgh sales taxes. Sales tax for Allegheny County in PA is 7%.
Upon acceptance Exhibitors must provide AFIP with an appropriate Certificate of Insurance, naming ‘A Fair in the Park’ as an additional insured pursuant to a general liability insurance policy that includes coverage for damages with a minimum coverage of $500,000. This certificate must be received by ‘The Craftsmen’s Guild of Pittsburgh’. Please make sure that your name as it appears on your application is the same on the certificate for verification. Instructions will be provided on the acceptance form of AFIP to upload your Certificate of Insurance.
ACT insurance sells weekend policies very reasonably priced at $39 for three days. AFIP will provide accepted artists with a link directly to ACT insurance with AFIP written into the policy.
Our parking policy will be strictly enforced. You must park your vehicle in the parking lot you are assigned to. Please note these lots are for Saturday and Sunday only; Friday you must park outside of the no parking zone on the map provided in your check-in packets. You will be required to provide your license plate number and make/model of the car that you will be using at AFIP on your acceptance form.
